About New Song

We're a brand new church serving a brand new community. Surprise, Arizona is one of the fastest growing communities in the country with over 1,000 new families moving in each month. In the next ten years the population is expected to grow from the current 100,000 to over 350,000 people. New Song is also growing rapidly and we expect to be a 1,000 member church within the next decade. The fields are ripe for the harvest!

Our Vision Statement -- Making Disciples & Making a Difference
Our vision is to become a great church that builds the kingdom of God by making disciples for Jesus Christ and making a difference in our community.

Our Mission Statement: Centered in Worship, We Reach, Teach, Tend, and Send
Centered in Worship which unites and empowers us for ministry,
We Reach out in love to a lost and hurting world and invite all people to be reconciled to their Creator through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
We Teach the Word of God to people of all ages through word and deed, by modeling lives of obedience to Christ and by practicing the tenets of our faith.
We Tend Christ's flock through nurturing ministries that bring healing and wholeness.
We Send out re-created followers of Jesus Christ to serve the world as faithful disciples and to witness to the grace of God.

What Kind of Church Are We?
We Are A United Methodist Church
We are proud to be a part of the rich spiritual and
theological traditions that make up the United Methodist Church. Through our connection to this 20 million member worldwide denomination, we are supported in our ministries and in turn support mission outreach around the world.

We Are An Evangelical Church
While labels can confuse rather than clarify, we proclaim New Song to be an evangelical church that emphasizes the need to actively spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to an unsaved world. We believe in the Bible as God's inspired Word which contains all truth necessary for our salvation. We believe that the hope of the world lies not in technology or human progress, but in a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. And we believe that it is the church's task to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ to "make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20)

We Are A Community Church
We are a church for the entire community. We welcome people of all faith backgrounds who want to worship God and be nurtured in their faith. As United Methodists we stand in a tradition of diversity and inclusiveness, where people are not told what to believe but are encouraged to seek their own understanding of the great truths of our faith through scripture, reason, tradition and experience.

We Are A Family Church
We are a church devoted to families, whether those families be young or old, single parents or blended families, working or retired. Above all, we want to help parents raise their children by providing quality Christian education, moral direction, and necessary resources to help children and youth grow in Christ.

We Are An Inclusive Church
We are a church that welcomes all people to be a part of our fellowship. We believe that the church should be that one place where all are treated equally and loved unconditionally. Those barriers that divide us as a society -- age, race, language, sexual preference, or class distinctions -- shall not divide us as a church. "For we are all one in Christ Jesus" (Gal. 3:28).

We Are A Praying Church
We believe that the church's very life is dependent upon the Holy Spirit and that we can do nothing without empowerment by the Holy Spirit. It is through prayer that the Holy Spirit is activated within us for ministry. Prayer is the foundation upon which New Song will be built and which will be a top priority in every aspect of church life. It is our goal that every person and ministry will be bathed in prayer, that prayer will precede our every effort, and that prayers of praise and thanksgiving will be offered for every success. We believe in the power of prayer!

Meet Our Pastor
Rev. Galene J. Boyett grew up in United Methodist Churches from California, to Kansas and Wisconsin and finally Arizona. She was a preacher's Kid as well as a military brat, and was active in the United Methodist Youth Fellowship that helped build the "new church on the hill" of the now defunct Community United Methodist Church of Needles, CA (the 20th oldest church in the Desert Southwest Annual Conference until 2006). She cut her adult Christian teeth at Sunrise UMC in North Phoenix, where she served various positions including lay leader, lay speaker, Disciple Bible Study teacher, head of strategic planning and choir member/choir director.

From 1997 to 2002 she served as part-time student local pastor under appointment to the two-point charge of Bethesda and Jerseyville in Adelphia, NJ. She graduated with honors from the Theological School a Drew University in Madison, NJ also earning the American Bible Society Award for Outstanding Acheivement in Biblical Studies.

Rev. Galene accomplished all this while raising three boys, Jacob, Kit and Gabe, with the help of her husband, Alan. She was the appointed senior pastor to Desert Chapel UMC in Apache Junction, AZ from 2002 until her current appointment to New Song in 2007.

Meet Our Associate Pastor

Our Brief History
In the fall of 1995 a decision was made by the Desert Southwest Annual Conference to place a new church in the planned Del Webb retirement community of Sun City Grand. Other United Methodist churches begun decades earlier in Sun City and Sun City West had experienced great success and it was felt that a church in Sun City Grand had enormous potential. An eight acre site was negotiated and plans were underway when, at the urging of church leaders in Sun City and Sun City West, a decision was made to move the planned church out of the retirement community and place it in the general community of Surprise, where it would more effectively serve as an intergenerational church for people of all ages. This was the first time that a United Methodist church was not placed in a Del Webb development in our conference.

In June of 1996, Rev. Steve Marshall was appointed to serve as the founding pastor of the new church, now named New Song United Methodist Church. In September of that year Rev. Marshall began the task of starting a brand new congregation from scratch. He began by personally knocking on over 1000 doors and visiting with hundreds of families in the rapidly growing area of Surprise. On March 16, 1997, New Song celebrated its first worship service with 140 in attendance, many of those friends, well-wishers and representatives from sister churches who brought greetings and words of blessing.

In July of 1997, after months of diligent searching for suitable property, an initial down payment of $10,000 was made on a ten-acre parcel located on Bell Road in the heart of the newly developing community of Surprise. Four United Methodist churches in neighboring Sun City and Sun City West generously raised $360,000 by April, 1998 so we could close escrow and be able to begin building. In June of 1999 we closed escrow on an additional 4 acres. We finally obtained a construction loan and formally broke ground on our first building on January 26, 2002. On July 14, 2002 we held our first worship services in our new building.

New Song chartered as an official United Methodist church with over 100 members on Sunday, January 16, 2000. We currently have 585 members. May God be glorified by our ministry here in Surprise.
