At New Song helping others is a priority! Here are just a few of the ways you can be involved in helping others and making a difference in people's lives:
Relief Efforts for Victims of Hurricane Katrina
We are very involved in helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina. We are an official "partner church" with Main Street UMC in Bay St. Louis, MS and have sent several work teams in the past years. Check the special page "Katrina Relief" for more information.
Habitat for Humanity
Over 2 dozen men and women from New Song have contributed their time and labor in building homes for Habitat for Humanity. These low-cost homes provide quality housing for poor families in our community. Contact Jerry Brawner to find out how you can participate in this important hands-on mission project.
Heifer Project
Last year our children collected over $500 to purchase sheep, chickens and other animals for this international mission project.
Holiday Food Boxes
Each year we provide more than two dozen large food boxes to needy families in our community at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. In addition we provide small Christmas gifts and Easter baskets for the children of these families. For more information contact Reta Rabe, President of the United Methodist Women.
Operation Christmas Child
We continue to support this Christmas ministry of Samaritan's Purse with gifts and money.
Feeding the Homeless at the Phoenix Shelter
Each winter (Nov. - Mar.) we prepare and serve 150 hot meals twice a month at the Phoenix homeless shelter. You can help by donating food, serving on a cook team, and/or serving the meals. This past winter we served over 150 delicious hot meals twice each month. Contact Carol Baker if you would like to serve in this important ministry.
Fiji Methodist Church Relief
We are helping a small Methodist church in the Fiji Islands rebuild after suffering a devastating loss to a hurricane. Thanks to the efforts of our United Methodist Men and other groups, we were able to recently send another $2,783 to the church to help them rebuild. Here are a couple of recent photographs of the work being done. Contact Dorothy Harris for more information.
Interfaith Hospitality Network
We participate in this ministry which provides short-term shelter and meals to homeless families in crisis. We need volunteers to stay overnight and provide meals and oversight for 2-3 homeless families, 3-4 times a year. Contact Pat Nelson for more information.
New Day Center
We continue to contribute clothing and funds for this shelter for homeless families with children.
New Song Needlers
Over a dozen women spend a Saturday morning each month at the church making quilts and blankets for the New Song Needlers (formerly Project Linus). You can help children in our community and around the nation by making a security blanket for a seriously ill child. Contact Sandy Klein, who is coordinating this wonderful ministry here at New Song.
Phoenix Children's Hospital
For the past few years we have helped support an immigrant family whose three young children are being tested for the AIDS virus by providing food, clothing and money for utilities. Contact Brenda Kline for more information.
Sidewalk Sunday School
We support this ministry to un-churched and under-privileged children during the year. In August we provide school supplies. At Christmas we invite the congregation to contribute tube socks filled with toilteries and healthcare items. For more information contact Judi Brawner.
U.S. Marines "Semper Fi" Fund
Our United Methodist Men are supporting this ministry to families of severely wounded men and women returning from the field of battle in Iraq and Afghanistan. To date we have raised over $2,000. For more information contact Everett Heer.
Wesley Community Center
We contribute clothing, funding and other assistance to this inner city ministry on a regular basis.
Westside Food Bank
During Lent church members will be volunteering at the Westside Food Bank every Tuesday at 5:00pm to sort food and pack food boxes. Contact Jerry Brawner for more information.
World Missions
Over the past few years we contributed over $8500 for Southeast Asian Tsunami Relief, over $16,000 to Katrina Hurricane Relief, and provided $2,000 to a youth mision trip to Mexico. Supporting world-wide missions is one way we touch the world for Christ.
