Director of Christian Education & Discipleship

Responsibilities:
This position includes two main areas of responsibility. The "Teach" Team leader provides general oversight for all areas of Chrstian Education and Discipleship in the church. The second area of responsibility is directing the children's ministries, including Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

A. “Teach” Team Leader
1. provide oversight of all areas and age levels of Christian Education including nursery, children, youth and adult education, as well as other ministry teams under the “Teach” umbrella.
2. meet weekly with pastor and staff (“Red” team) for spiritual development and guidance.
3. meet monthly with “Green” ministry team leaders to ascertain ministry activity and effectiveness.
4. meet minimum of twice per year with “Blue” ministry team leaders to ascertain ministry activity and effectiveness.
5. work with “Green” and “Blue” ministry team leaders to develop and implement a plan for Christian discipleship for all ages including curriculum and evaluation.
6. recruit and train teachers and leaders for all educational classes.
7. maintain attendance records for all educational classes.
8. provide a written report to Charge Conference noting areas of successful ministry and goals for coming year.
9. continue to develop his/her own skills so as to maintain a high standard of excellence.

B. Children’s Education Team Leader
10. supervise and direct children’s Sunday School ministry
11. recruit and train teachers
12. develop curriculum and provide necessary resources to teachers
13. approve all expenditures relating to Christian Education while remaining within budget
14. maintain attendance records
15. maintain good communication with parents

Qualifications:
1. Minimum three years experience in leading a Sunday School program
2. Possess necessary teaching skills in working with children and adults
3. Possess technical knowledge as it pertains to audio-visual equipment and computers
4. Possess good administrative and leadership skills
5. Possess good interpersonal and relational skills
6. Possess spiritual maturity and a commitment to a Christian life-style

Compensation:
Compensation will be $10.00 per hour, with a maximum 20 hour week, payable twice per month on the 15th and 30th days. This compensation includes all aforementioned job responsibilities. No overtime will be provided. As a less than ¾ employee of the church, no benefits are provided.

The Director of Christian Education and Discipleship is accountable to the pastors and the Staff/Parish Relations Committee.

Sickness/Vacation:
In the event of sickness or vacation, two weekends may be missed (with advance notice given, if possible) without loss of pay.
