What makes New Song so special? Here's our answer: our people! Time and again we've been told by our first-time guests that they've never been in a friendlier, more welcoming church. Our people really care about you!

Some people think that church is boring. But New Song is anything but boring! Our worship is lively yet inspirational -- you really feel the presence of God. At New Song you can make friends and make a difference.

Here at New Song we offer two different styles of worship to help you to experience the presence of God.

We want to invite you to come discover New Song. We may be one of the best kept secrets in Surprise!

Rev. Lyndon R. Mason

Our Sunday morning traditional service at 9:00am offers familiar hymns while our 10:30am contemporary service is upbeat and celebratory.

Beginning in January 2011, flowers are coming to our altar on Sunday mornings.  Please sign up at the table on the patio.  If you have any questions, call Charlene Weir, 623.546.9688

ALL GOD'S CHILDREN

We have been blessed with many new members at New Song, so I’d like to Are-introduce All God’s Children.  This is not a group for children only.  We are all God’s children, every living breathing one of us, and as such, everyone is welcome.  We get together on a strictly social basis to build friendships between the people of New Song.  Friends, relatives and neighbors are always included in the invitation.

On June 25th, a Saturday, we will be caravanning to the Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe to see “Sea Life Arizona,” an amazing aquarium inside the mall, with sharks, seahorses and manta rays among the displays to view.  I have been there, and it’s beautifully done.  If we order tickets in advance and have more than 15 people sign up, we can get great group rates on-line.  We can either pack lunches or purchase mall food and eat lunch at the food court.  It will be too hot to picnic outside.  The aquarium is handicap-friendly, so everyone can come along and enjoy the day.

Please sign up on the sheet, or call me (Barbara Fahy (623) 537-7014 if you have questions.  I know it’s a bit farther than we usually go, but I think you’ll find it worth the drive.  Car-pooling would work well for this trip.

Remember, everyone is invited and you can all bring a friend. The idea of All God’s Children is to build bridges.

United Methodist Women (UMW)

The Purpose:  The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

“Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.  Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.  Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.”

Proverbs 31:29-31 (The New King James Version)

Looking ahead!  Meeting dates for 2011 are scheduled .  Please mark the following dates on your calendar:

September 24

October 22

November 12

December 10

I was reading one of my quilting magazines the other day and found this:

“1) Woman without her man is nothing.

 2) Woman, without her man is nothing.”

The only difference between those two sentences is one little comma.  However, this piece of punctuation changes the entire meaning.  It often seems true that the smallest thing we do provides the greatest joy to someone.  Thanks to your help this past month United Methodist Women (UMW) assembled twenty six birthing kits for United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).  This project was undertaken as a mission outreach and we realty appreciate your help in making it possible.

Mission Outreach:  Thanks to members of the Needlers 19 quilts were completed and Prayer Shawl Ministry completed 9 prayer shawls since our last report.

Please “thank” them!   Also please "thank" our hospitality committee who provides us with beverages & treats between services.

Did you know that the colors on the altar are significant? Green is the color on the altar presently signifying growth.

Special Opportunity: Help supply the sanctuary with "The Faith We Sing" songbooks:
UPDATE: We Half way there! At last count, we have ordered forty (40) copies of "The Faith We Sing" UMC songbooks based on contributions from members of the New Song Congregation and friends. We still have forty more to go.

Help New Song Church supply copies of "The Faith We Sing" hymnal for our pews. We sing many of the songs from this special songbook - but don't have any copies of the book in the pews so we can learn the music for the songs. A donation of $10 will purchase a book. Buy a book to honor or remember a loved one. Add "Faith We Sing" note to the memo line on your checks.

A Message from Rev. Lyndon R. Mason

Scared to Death
Or
Freed to Live

It is a choice how we live our life; either filled with fear or with hopeful anticipation.  From a very early age our life is a discovery process; what we learn with our discoveries will either convince us of our presuppositions that life is an experience that can be trusted or not.  Children learn from their parents that life is a great adventure or a place of constant danger.  If we are lucky, we will receive Godly wisdom from our parents that helps us understand that life has a mixture of both; our physical survival depends upon these early lessons.

In my own case I learned as a two year old that “No” does not mean “Go.”  A series of knots on my head taught me that those places that I dearly wanted to get to was not compatible with my small frame and coordination  level.  For children a Parent’s guidance is critical.  As I grew, I learned that some of my limits or boundaries were not the same as my parents.  In good ways I learned that college could and would open doors for me that had been closed to my parents.  In bad ways I learned through my first speeding ticket that laws apply to me as well as the other guy.

Our spiritual life is not unlike our physical life in that there are many learning lessons to our journey that must be cultivated if we are to have a fulfilled spirit.  Those early knots to our souls should help us to learn the dangers and the needs for some boundaries to our spiritual journey; there are consequences in going outside God’s Kingdom.  If we stick close to God, we will experience a life filled far more that freedoms and far less with fears and we will also learn that freedom is not a license, but rather the absence of fear.

As New Song moves forward in both our Disciple making processes as well as our increasing in membership, I pray that we will each discover the depths of God’s freedom.  God’s good news through Jesus will help us to grow in all the ways that lead to Life.  God’s Holy Spirit will give us the tools that are necessary to have more of an invitational spirit.  God’s Love will always triumph over the petty fears that lead to complacency and spiritual death.  The choice though is ours; will it be freedom or fear?
