April, 2008

Once again, our New Song youth are on the move!   Last month, they planned several special events for our congregation.  I know many of us were able to see first-hand the special inspiration and spirit our youth bring to our congregation.

On Sunday, March 9th, our youth played hosted the congregation at a special Anniversary Sock Hop.  We had a delicious Chili and Hot Dog dinner, followed by a very special evening of entertainment.  Our youth presented a program inspired by ”American Bandstand,” and reprised classic performances by Bill Haley, The Chordettes, Leslie Gore, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ben E. King, and, of course, Elvis.  The music was interspersed with “Commercials” for Zappo Cola and Zitex pimple cream, other skits, and opportunities to enjoy the twist, hula hoops, and the stroll.  In between, a variety of favorites from the 50’s were played for dancing and listening.  All told, the youth raised $687 after expenses for their mission trip this summer!

On Easter Sunday, our youth were a major part of the worship life of our congregation.  They arrived at 5:30 a.m. and led the entire Sunrise Worship Service, beginning at 6:00 including the music.  Then, they shared a special anthem, “He’s Alive,” at the 8:00 and 9:30 Worship Services, and then served as the praise team at the 11:00 Contemporary Worship Service.  In addition, they also filled and hid nearly 1,000 Easter Eggs for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, which was held between the 9:30 and 11:00 services.  And the following week, on Sunday the 30th, our Youth Praise Band again led music at the 11:00 contemporary service.

Thanks to all involved for your leadership!

And coming up this month, on Saturday the 12th, the youth will be sponsoring a Car Wash!  Our youth will be on duty from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday morning and afternoon, and their car-cleansing skills are sure to put a shine on your Chevy, a luster on your Lexus, or a gleam on your GMC.  As with all youth fundraisers, the proceeds will go toward our youth mission trip in June.

Our youth are a blessing to this church family.  Their hard work and creativity bring a fresh spirit to our shared journey of faith.  Please join me in supporting them and their activities.

God bless,

Pastor Tom

Our New Song Youth are the greatest.  They bring wonderful gifts and a new spirit to our church family.  Let’s support their activities this fall!

As always, our youth group provides a place for the youth to feel safe and grow spiritually, and they need the Christian Church Family to help them in their journey.

From the Newspaper!

An article in the newspaper said that going to church helps build teenagers' self-esteem. They did a survey of over 1,260 eighth-graders and found that the greater their involvement in church (and youth group!), the higher their self-esteem. Teens who are active in church also are closer to their parents which also correlates to higher self-esteem and confidence. Teenagers tend to look at their peers and celebrities as models and come up short in their own eyes. The church offers an alternative and emphasizes a positive self-image. So, if you want to feel good about yourself, go to church!

Girls! Here's a clipping from a Dear Abby column with a warning for you to be careful in your relationships:
When I saw him, I liked him.
When I liked him, I loved him.
When I loved him, I let him.
When I let him, I lost him.

Something to think about.
